Psion Teklogix 7535 G2
Rugged flashlight-style handheld
(by Conrad H. Blickenstorfer)
The 7535 G2 is a compact, lightweight, rugged handheld computer designed to strike a balance between state-of-the-art performance and durability in demanding environments. The G2 is a technologically updated version of the Psion Teklogix 7535. The device now runs Windows CE 5.0 on a 520MHz of the PXA270 processor, has more standard RAM and Flash, has Bluetooth, faster wireless LAN (802.11b/g) and additional options.
Generally, you'd expect a "7535" model to offer more than a "7530" model, but in the case of the Psion Teklogix, 7535 more is less, as in less size and less weight than the invincible but fairly large 7535 G2. The 7535 G2 looks almost the same, but weighs 1.4 pounds instead of 2.1 pounds and is smaller in every dimension. The 7535 G2 is also missing a PC Card slot and expansion goes through a SD and a CF card slot. The device is slightly less rugged in all environmental standards (though still plenty tough). There are very few compromises on the technology side: the 7535 uses the same 520MHz PXA270 processor and can be equipped with the same RAM and flash storage. The transflective color display is the same as well, and a monochrome version is available. Keyboard and expansion options slightly differ.
Psion coined the FIRE acronym for this device: Flexibility, Integration, Ruggedness, and Ergonomics.
